Mavis CW is a London-based British photographer born in Taipei, Taiwan. She graduated from Imperial College London, where she initially pursued scientific studies before discovering her passion for photography.
Her journey into photography began with an appreciation for architecture and interior design, teaching herself visual composition through structured forms and spatial awareness. However, a pivotal moment occurred when she encountered The Decisive Moment by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Moved by the power of photography to convey profound emotions and narratives, she found her true calling in street photography.
Drawn to the poetry of everyday life, she documents the fleeting moments, quiet encounters, and subtle details that give the streets their character. Her photographs offer an intimate perspective on the world as it unfolds, finding beauty in the ordinary and permanence in the passing moment. Deeply committed to the craft of analogue photography, she develops her own film in the darkroom, embracing a hands-on process that is as integral to her practice as the act of seeing itself.
